After our arrival in Rome and checking into our hotel for an overnight stay, we headed to San Giovanni Rotondo the very next morning.
San Giovanni Rotondo was the home of Saint Pio of Pietrelcina and is also his resting place. I'll probably put up a separate post about that, for now I'll talk about this quaint little town we visited.
San Giovanni Rotondo is mostly visited by pilgrims because of the church built in the name of Saint Pio or Padre Pio, as he is most commonly known.
Even though this town is more known for the church of Padre Pio, it is also known for its hospital and medical research center that was also founded by Padre Pio.
Since our travel time from Rome to San Giovanni was very long, we decided to stay overnight at the Gran Paradiso hotel. Our hotel was right outside the town itself but the view it presented us was just lovely as we could see the whole town!
